Bundle Up!

by Kesha Denise of Funky Flair Boutique

What's arrogant, warm and fuzzy, but yet stylish and chic!?!? Yes, I'm talking about fur.

Fur is everywhere and is a great way to add some sexy elegance to an outfit as it's an "over the top" fashion must-have, especially if you opt for wild and vibrant colors. Furs can come in array of styles - coats, skirts, stoles, boas, and also can be used in trimming on the cuff or collars of jackets or even gloves.

Fur vests are going to be the most popular for the Fall 2009 season. This trend can be seen all over the fashion runways. Ladies, rock a fur vest with a belt at your waist to show off your coke-bottle body. And Fellas, you can wear fur too, but be careful not to look "pimpish". LOL

Whether you are balling out of control wearing a mink or chinchilla (but please beware of PETA), or a frugal fashionista going for the faux-fur, always bundle up in style!

Fall Trend – Dark, Deep Lips… Black perhaps???

By: Alexandra Butler

Have you ever wondered if you could pull off the latest trends in beauty? Designers like Rachel Roy, YSL, Jason Wu and Key Makeup Artists predicted the fall trend in beauty would be deep, dark, Goth lips during this year’s NYC Fashion Week. Is this a current trend or a thing of the good ole’ ‘90’s that makes you ask, “Where they do that at?” Designer Rachel Roy teamed up with Makeup Artist Extraordinaire Bobbi Brown to come up with a standout look for her Fall 2009 Collection:

So after seeing this trend on the runways of fashion week, it makes you wonder how this look will come off on celebrities or models and how exactly they wear it off the runway, but first let’s take it back to when it was hot, the 90’s:

So to make it easily accessible to us ordinary, everyday people, MAC came out with their Style Black Collection which launched in all stores nationwide on September 24th, 2009. This line featured a mysterious and fantasy-filled selection of products that allowed us to bring the runway trend to the everyday streets:

MAC Style Black lipstick

l-r Lustre Lipstick in Black Knight, Mattene Lipstick in Midnight Media, and Mattene Lipstick in Night Violet. Prices range from $14-$15.

In order to achieve this look, there are a few things that one needs to have:

Photobucket
Prep +Prime lip

Some sort of primer to help with the feathering and bleeding that tends to happen when rich colors are applied to the lip. $14.50

Photobucket
Nightmoth lip pencil

A dark colored lip pencil to outline and color your lips in completely. By shading your lips in, you are allowing the lipstick to adhere to something and will ensure a longer lasting wear without the color fading. $13.00

Midnight Media Mattene lipstick

Whether you prefer black or any dark colored lipstick, apply that color on top of the liner that has already been applied to the lips. If you are not as suave with applying lipstick, use a flat synthetic brush to apply the lipstick to the lips. Work from the inner lip to the outer portion and up to the line of the lips. $14.50

To clean up any uneven lines or bleeding color, touch up your lips with a small angled brush and some foundation powder. Follow the natural line of your lips with the angled brush that has the powder on it. For color selection, use a powder that is a shade lighter than your normal powder so that it can highlight the area around your lips and give you a natural pout. $26.00 for the foundation powder and $19.50 for the small angled brush

And VOILA!!! Check me out…

My lips appear to have more purple in them because I used MAC’s Nightmoth Lip Liner; however, you can just use a black eye liner to make the black more intense. And remember, since the lip is already very dramatic, keep the eye very neutral and soft because you do not want to take away from the lips.

Stay tuned for more make-up trends to come!!! Happy Holidays!!!

GLOVES TO LOVE...

Fingerless gloves have made it back to the fashion scene.. I'm sure you fashion nuts already picked up on the re-occurring trend.. Fingerless gloves adds that extra spark to your ensemble... And fellas, don't shy away from this trend.. You have permission from ya girl to copp you a pair as well..(preferably leather)... And I must say my girl Beyonce put the whole glove hype back on the map with the whole "Sasha Fierce" phase.. But then again, I have to give full credit to my man Mike (R.I.P.) because since his passing I see gloves all over the place..

Gloves can be purchased at Urban Outfitters

The Perfect Suit for the Occasion....

Formal

The Perfect Suit for the Occasion

By Kendrick Scott

For some apparent reason suits have made one hell of a comeback. I really don’t recall many rappers and athletes wearing any suits but times have changed. NBA rules have changed and all players on the sideline must wear a suit. Now rappers such as 50 Cent and Jay-Z are now often seen in a well tailored suit. Not only do suits enhance your look, it also gives a man an extra boost of confidence.

Let me help you choose the “Perfect Suit For The Occasion”.

Nite Time Leisure

Party

Wedding

All suits may be purchased at www.menswearhouse.com

Just remember when shopping for perfect suit that you MUST ALWAYS consider the occasion at hand. Also you want to get fitted and make sure that all alterations are completed. You don’t want to walk into a party with a wedding suit on or a wear a party suit into a Charity Event.

Bringing the 80s Back: Eyewear Edition....

By Kendrick Scott ..

For some reason it seems like everybody and their mama are trying to bring back the 80s with the high top fades, skinny jeans, colorful outfits and throwback sneakers. I personally am a big fan of the 80s inspired vintage eyewear. Vintage eyewear has set the platform for today designs are being imitated by some of your favorite designers. Whether they are reading glasses, aviators, wayfarer, 80s inspired and the list goes. I personally love the Cazal 607’s with the clear lenses. Run from DMC really put them on the map in the 80s and they have made their way back on the fashion scene.

Here are some of the Hottest styles by Ray Ban, Cazal, Carrera & Boeing, Ferrari, Zeiss, and Persol.

We all know that everything isn’t for everybody. Just because you see Jay-Z wear a pair of Ray Ban Wayfarer doesn’t mean they will have the same look on you. Have fun shopping for the right pair that fits “You”.

Do You Have the Blues! Spring 2009

We're all anticipating Spring to break... I don't know about you but I'm "blue" with excitement.. Contributing writer & stylista Anita Hill has spotted a new color trend this spring...

"This season, the new purple is blue. Last season, purple was virtually everywhere. We saw so many shades of purple, (some I didn’t even know existed). There was lavender, eggplant, plum, and all of the royal hues in between. Not only did we see every shade of purple, but we saw every shade of purple in everything. There were purple handbags, boots, jewelry, jeans, dress suits, and much more.

Well, this season, the new purple is blue. Especially bold blues like electric royal blue, teal, and turquoise. Also, for the more conservative professionals, sailor navy will replace the basic blacks in this season’s wardrobe. For the last decade, blue has been so hard to find. However, this season blue will be found in many varieties. You will find handbags, shoes, business suits, and more. So watch out….because this season, we’re going to have the blues"!
